Bangor Brownies from Mary Burrill
These were the first brownies published in the Unites States. They were published in the Bangor Daily News of Bangor Maine in the early 1900s. Sis says that they are not quite as wonderful as Brownies tend to be now, but they are certainly worth a try as a curiosity.
Cream together:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
Add:
2 eggs
2 squares unsweetened melted chocolate
1 sacnt cup of flour
a pinch of salt
1/2 cup broken walnuts
Grease an 8x8 inch pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 20-30 minutes.
Brownies are not meant to be cooked dry in the middle.
