Italian Viagra

It is unfortunate that I do not have a digital picture of the actual place, but a couple of years ago we saw a sign for Italian Viagra on a doorway in Amalfi. It was in a string of red peppers. I thought this would be a great desktop picture for anyone who wants it.
I love the red peppers..Pepperoncini...and would use them all the time. Unfortunately, John has been complaining lately about any trace of hot in the foods I make. I made Pizza without peppers after that, then he dumped peppers on top...Go Figure!

You can get a lot from a handful of peppers. Fill a narrow necked bottle with with cracked dried peppers. The container should have a good stopper. Be sure to isolate the finished product from a metal or porous cover. The cover should be ceramic,(glazed) glass or plastic. A rubber canning washer is OK.
Fill the container with good olive oil. Use regular oil if you will likely cook with the oil and good virgin oil if it will be used for salads or as a finishing sprinkle in dishes. Make sure that the peppers are completely submerged. Allow it to sit in the refrigerator for a week or more before using it. In any event, keep it refrigerated to avoid spoilage of the peppers.
Use it on top of vegetable dishes, pizza or meats before serving instead of butter.
